Hydration Routine

Restore water balance — the foundation of all healthy skin.

Hydration is the most fundamental element of good skin. Regardless of type, concern, or age, well-hydrated skin is more resilient, more luminous, and more comfortable. This routine is the place to start.

Routine purpose

Why this routine.

This routine focuses on restoring and maintaining optimal skin hydration using humectants, barrier support, and gentle hydrating actives — without stripping, exfoliating, or overwhelming skin with additional actives.

Immediate comfort

Tightness, flakiness, and discomfort improve rapidly with consistent hydrating routine use.

Improved luminosity

Well-hydrated skin reflects light more evenly, producing a natural glow without any additional active ingredients.

Foundation for all other actives

A well-hydrated skin barrier allows other actives (retinoids, acids, vitamins) to work more effectively with less irritation.

    Layering guide

    How to layer this routine.

    ✕

Apply hyaluronic acid to damp skin

HA attracts water from the environment and from deeper skin layers. On damp skin, it draws that surface moisture inward rather than pulling moisture up from deep layers (which can worsen dehydration in very dry climates).

    ✕

Always follow a humectant with an occlusant

HA and glycerin draw water but do not seal it in. Without a moisturiser over the top, the water they attract can evaporate. The moisturiser is what locks everything in.

    ✕

Use the routine twice daily without exception

Hydration maintenance is cumulative — a single application does not last 24 hours. Consistent twice-daily use is the only way to maintain optimal hydration levels.

    Ingredient synergy

    Why these ingredients work together.

Each pairing in this routine is intentional. Understanding why helps you get the most from every product.

    Lifestyle

    Supporting your routine.

    • ✓

Drink adequate water, especially in hot weather and air-conditioned environments.

    • ✓

Use a humidifier in your bedroom if air conditioning or heating is running constantly.

    • ✓

Avoid very hot showers — they dissolve the lipid layer that retains skin moisture.

    • ✓

Apply your routine immediately after cleansing while skin is still slightly damp.

    Questions

    Frequently asked.

Yes — absolutely. Hyaluronic acid is water-based and adds no oil. Oily skin that is also dehydrated (very common) benefits significantly from HA, and some people find consistent HA use reduces oiliness because the skin is no longer compensating for dehydration with extra sebum.

Hydration improvements are often visible within 24–48 hours of starting a consistent routine. Longer-term barrier improvement takes 2–4 weeks. The results are not permanent without ongoing use — hydration maintenance is a daily commitment.

Hydrating refers to adding water content to the skin (humectants like HA do this). Moisturising refers to preventing water loss by sealing the skin surface (occlusants and emollients do this). Effective skin hydration requires both.
